What is Tellus?
Tellus is a three-year research-based project aimed at strengthening the preventative work against sexual harassment at Lund University. The project, initiated by vice-chancellor Torbjörn von Schantz, will contribute to a safe study and work environment for all students and staff at the University.
Researchers from Tellus are conducting individual interviews and focus group discussions with students, doctoral students and employees from Lund University. The results from the interviews and group discussions will form the basis for the development of a university-wide survey, which will be sent out to all students, doctoral students and employees at the university. The results from the survey will be used as a basis for proposed measures of how Lund University can strengthen the preventative work against sexual harassment. These proposed measures will then be implemented and followed up.
What stage is the Tellus project currently in (at the beginning of 2019)?
During the autumn and winter of 2018, the researchers from Tellus’ project team conducted individual interviews with students, doctoral students and employees from Lund University. In the beginning of 2019, these interviews are still ongoing, and the focus group study is about to begin. Focus group discussions will be conducted with students, doctoral students and employees during the winter and spring of 2019.
When will the survey be sent out and who can participate in it?
When the interview and focus group studies are finished, the results will be used to develop a survey which will be sent out to all students, doctoral students and employees at Lund University.
Why is this project being carried out now?
The global movement #MeToo received a lot of attention in 2017, when primarily women shared their experiences of sexual harassment, abuse and misuse of power. The movement led to campaigns from different industries – for example #akademiuppropet on November 24 2017, where 2400 women from the university sector demanded change in the academic world. In connection to this, the project Tellus was initiated by vice-chancellor Torbjörn von Schantz to contribute to a safe study and work environment for everyone active at Lund University.
